During our digital marketing chapter, we used Stukent, a simulation software with learning tools, to explore concepts such as PPC, keywords and ad spend. Over the course of this 3-week experiment, I marketed various products of a fictitious backpack company and made sample advertisements, selecting and paying for PPC ads and analyzing their success. At the end, everyone in the class had a different amount of simulated impressions and conversions based on the strategies they used and how they invested their budget.
The best part of the business track, hands down, is the innovative and engaging learning style. Marketing is a highly practical field - learning only theory would be a superficial approach and would likely not be effective later on when students will actually need to apply the concepts. Knowing that, Mrs. Weissman incorporated various projects, presentations and case studies into our curriculum, giving us the opportunity to not only learn a topic, but to research, innovate and apply it to real-world examples and gain a deeper understanding of how marketing functions in practice. Check out some of my projects!
The marketing plan was a summative assessment prepared over the course of the whole semester and presented for a final grade, in the style of a real corporate marketing pitch. For my plan, I chose to research Old Spice, learning about the unique branding of the company, their preferred marketing channels, their target audience and market share, before finally coming up with my own marketing strategies and ideas and presenting them in a slideshow.Â
This was no small feat - the 40-slide presentation was assembled with various deliverables that we completed right after learning a certain topic. So, if during a given week we learned about consumer behavior and target audience, I would complete the necessary research in these two areas in relation to Old Spice, and record my findings to be used in the final project. You can check out all of my deliverables and intermediate steps in this folder, and find my final presentation right after this text.
This was an extremely fun project, probably my favorite out of all the business presentations. I found Old Spice to be an extremelly fun and interesting marketing case study, and thoroughly enjoyed coming up with my own recommendations and ideas for the marketing plan.
